“This is the music of our youth that shaped many of us forever. Generations of us fell in love with jazz through hip-hop sample culture, and we have been buying these jazz records forever too. We’ve been very lucky in Cork to have a jazz festival that now reaches its 45th year; and we’ve hosted many great hip-hop and jazz acts in that time. We will be displaying record covers signed by many of these acts, who have now passed on (Guru/McCoy Tyner/Sharon Jones etc). Myself and Mark from ChoiceCuts have helped bring many of these great artists to Ireland and we are in a unique position to tell some of the stories.

Each record cover tells a story, and that’s even before we get to the great music. It’s a celebration of great photographers, graphic designers, record labels and artists that sometimes never got their due. Many of us live and breathe this music and as hip-hop itself reaches a significant milestone it’s a great time to celebrate its relationship with jazz. We will celebrate A Tribe Called Quest, Roy Ayers, De La Soul, Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone, Kendrick Lamar, Guru, Primo, Lonnie Liston Smith, Miles Davis and many more.
