About the Artist

Yenkee

Yenkee, aka Graham Cooney, began recording and producing his own music at 15. A music school dropout, Cooney performed on the streets of Cork City and worked in a supermarket to collect money to build his own studio. He describes these years as being his University; learning to record, produce and mix his own music. In 2015 he began crafting his lo-fi bedroom recordings into sincere and soulful indie pop. Inspired by artists such as Prefab Sprout, Prince, John Martyn and Randy Newman, Yenkee’s songs are endeavours in modern pop with suggestions of the tasteful palette of 70s rock, all enveloped in a saturated analog sound. Now based in London, Cooney released his debut EP Cannibal Tree in 2019, followed by Soft Boy Records-released Yen in 2022.

Kean Kavanagh

Co-founder, producer and A&R of Irish Label Soft Boy Records, Kean Kavanagh is a story-teller with a strong imagination who set out his stall as both a singer-songwriter and world creator in 2020, with the release of his acclaimed project Dog Person. In what turned out to be a big year for him, 2020 also saw Kean make an appearance on the Everything Is Recorded project FRIDAY FOREVER, (curated by Richard Russell of XL Recordings) alongside Aitch, Flohio, Maria Somerville, Ghostface Killah and others, aligning himself with a tastemaker and a hotly tipped selection of musical peers. Alongside his own rise, Soft Boy Records, founded in 2015, morphed into a cultural behemoth in its own right, gripping the Irish music scene and never letting go – with his co-founder Kojaque, Kean has found himself sharing stages with names such as Loyle Carner and Lana Del Ray, performing solo-slots opening for Maverick Sabre and Vampire Weekend and starring in a Boiler Room documentary about the label and collective.

Five to Two

Five to Two are a Dublin jazz trio consisting of Matthew Breen (piano), Jonah Byrne (double bass) and Finn Mac Anna (drums). They have become known for their engaging live shows; performing with their signature clash of telepathic playing and infectious energy, they’re rowdier than your standard jazz gig. In the time since their debut project, the band have spent time developing and honing their sound which is evident on their most recent record, ‘Talk Soon’, that sees nods to a myriad of influences including organ repertoire, hip-hop and modern jazz, contrasting sincerity and playfulness.
