KhakiKid, the Dublin-born alt-rapper Abdu Huss, only recently realised the value of his own story; raised on a Crumlin council estate with his single mother and five siblings, he began rapping at 12, inspired by Chief Keef.
His 2020 debut single Late introduced a jazz-tinged hip-hop style, and by 2021 he’d gained a cult following in Ireland and abroad; his 2022 EP Elevator Music blended playful, self-aware lyrics with bold rapping.
Now, KhakiKid is embracing a more emotional and personal tone, drawing on his life experiences and reflecting on moments he once thought unimportant.
He also aims to represent those who feel without a community, including minority groups in Ireland, as he connects more with his Arab-Irish roots and his refugee father’s story.
